New drama Masters of Sex has been renewed for a second series.

The sexy sixties-set drama, which stars Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan, has been recommissioned for another 12 episodes by US network Showtime.

Masters of Sex is based on the lives of William Masters and Virginia Johnson, two of the most important researchers in the field of human sexuality, as they ask ground-breaking questions about our behaviour in the bedroom and help spark the sexual revolution.

Showtime’s entertainment president David Nevins said: “The critical and audience reaction to Masters of Sex since its great launch has been incredibly gratifying.”

The drama is currently airing in the UK in Channel 4. It is not known whether the second run will be aquired by the UK broadcaster.

Masters of Sex continues on Tuesday at 9:00pm on Channel 4.
