Jennifer Lawrence, the Oscar-winning actress who plays Hunger Games heroine Katniss Everdeen, is striking a pose in a new stylised poster for Catching Fire.
The oil-painting-style image sees Katniss looking every inch the revolutionary leader, standing atop a cliff, bow in hand, as sunlight streams down on her. And with the words “The sun persists in rising. So I make myself stand” stamped into the stormy sky above her, there’s a definite sense of the impending chaos the sequel will bring.
Catching Fire is the second movie to be adapted from Suzanne Collins’s sensational Hunger Games trilogy. The series is set in post-apocalyptic Panem, a world where the population is sectioned into 12 districts ruled over by the all powerful Capitol. The first Hunger Games film saw Katniss Everdeen (Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) drafted in to take part in the annual Hunger Games, a compulsory event organised by the Capitol in which 24 teenagers fight to the death on live TV. Catching Fire will see the victorious couple return to their native District 12 as, inspired by Katniss, the world of Panem tumbles into anarchy…
Liam Hemsworth, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Sam Claflin and Willow Shields also star in the sequel, which is directed by Francis Lawrence.
