David Tennant and Arthur Darvill in new pictures and trailer from ITV’s Broadchurch

As well as the Doctor Who stars, the new crime drama also features Olivia Colman, Pauline Quirke, Vicky McClure and David Bradley

Actors David Tennant and Arthur Darvill had never met before they filmed ITV’s, Broadchurch, but their union in the upcoming crime drama is sure to excite Doctor Who fans.

Tennant plays DI Alec Hardy – an out-of-town newly-promoted police detective who is investigating the murder of 11-year-old Danny Latimer, found dead on a beach in the idyllic seaside village of Broadchurch.

Local girl DS Ellie Miller (Olivia Colman) must work with the difficult and unyielding Hardy on the case which is the subject of national press attention. Beth and Mark Latimer, along with their daughter Chloe and Beth’s mother, struggle to cope with Danny’s loss amidst the media frenzy, while businesses are also implicated as the community suffers the impact of a local murder.

Arthur Darvill plays village vicar Paul Coates who tries to offer support, while Pauline Quirke takes the role of Susan Wright – a suspicious local character who lives a lonely existence in a caravan park but appears to know more about Danny’s demise than she’s letting on…

Broadchurch is due to broadcast on ITV later this year but, in the meantime, check out new images from episode one below:
