Breaking Bad creator hints at Saul Goodman spin-off

Vince Gilligan says he’s been working on several ideas for new shows after his AMC hit finishes this summer - and a “lighter” Better Call Saul show is high on his list

Breaking Bad is almost over.  It’s sad, but it’s true.  This summer the final eight episodes of the drama that tells the story of a high school chemistry teacher with lung cancer building an unlikely dugs empire will play out on AMC in America. But even though the sun is setting on season five and the story of Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and Jessie Pinkman (Aaron Paul) – there might be hope for fans yet…

Series creator Vince Gilligan has revealed he’s been toying with ideas for spin-off series from the show, and his favourite so far involves charismatic attorney at law, Saul Goodman, played by Bob Odenkirk.

“He always seemed to me like a character who could support his own show,” Gilligan said whilst speaking at the Screenwriters Choice Awards.

He added: “I very, very much would like to see that happen. It would be a little lighter in tone than Breaking Bad, but it would be a fun thing to have… and a fun thing to do.”

If you’re in any doubt that Better Call Saul (what else could it be called?) would be anything other than a rip roaring success – watch this video of Bob Odenkirk’s best bits on Breaking Bad:
