Georgia Taylor and Paterson Joseph join Law & Order UK cast

Eight new episodes to begin filming later this month for broadcast in 2013

Actress Georgia Taylor is to join the cast of hit ITV1 drama Law & Order UK as a defence-barrister-turned-crown-prosecutor by the name of Kate Barker.

Described as “straight-talking, charming and likeable and very used to getting her own way”, she looks set to infuriate her new associate chief prosecutor Jacob Thorne (Dominic Rowan).

Taylor, 32, first found fame as Toyah Battersby in Coronation Street and was more recently seen playing series regular Ruth Winters in Casualty.

Also on board for the new series is Paterson Joseph, who will play the newly appointed DI Wes Leyton. Having been on the force since the age of 18, Leyton is someone who has “been through it all and knows the only way to change things is from the inside”.

He will also share a history with DS Ronnie Brooks (Bradley Walsh), with whom he shares a similar outlook on life. However, Brooks’s partner DS Sam Casey (Paul Nicholls) isn’t so sure of his new boss.

Joseph, 48, is a veteran of many hit dramas, including Doctor Who and Case Histories, and was recently seen in the final series of Hustle.

Series seven of Law & Order UK will also see the return of Peter Davison as Henry Sharpe, the director of the Crown Prosecution Service.

Opening this run of eight episodes will be a two-part story that will see a suicidal man drive his car across a railway crossingm causing the train to crash and killing 15 people. The investigation takes on several twists as the teams pursue the case while the future of their colleague, DS Sam Casey, hangs in the balance.

Filming takes place within London from November 2012 with transmission scheduled for 2013.
