Clare Balding to be guest host of Have I Got News for You

Olympics hero will kick off series 44 of topical news quiz, with panellists including Graham Linehan

Former BBC sports presenter Clare Balding is to be the guest host of Have I Got News for You when the satirical quiz returns to BBC1 on Friday 12 October.

Balding was widely seen as the BBC’s best Olympics presenter and went on to front the Paralympics for Channel 4. In January she will become the new face of Channel 4 Racing, but will be free to work on other projects for the BBC.

Her appearance on Have I Got News for You, alongside regular team captains Ian Hislop and Paul Merton, was announced on the programme’s Twitter feed, which said: “We’ve got news for you: we’re back! New series starts 12th October, with guest host @clarebalding1! Wonder what she got up to this summer.”

Comedy writer Graham Linehan is among the panellists for Balding’s edition of HIGNFY. Guest hosts for the rest of the series are yet to be announced. The show has not had a permanent host since the dismissal of Angus Deayton in 2002.
