Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Gal Gadot is a more subdued Wonder Woman in this colourful 1980s-set sequel, which brims with high-octane action yet fails to excite as much as the original film. Diana Prince is keeping a low profile working at the Smithsonian museum in Washington DC, still coming to terms with the death of her lover Steve Trevor (Chris Pine). But after she and new pal Dr Barbara Minerva (Kristen Wiig) come into contact with a mysterious artefact, their deepest wishes seem to come true. When the object falls into greedy hands, it's up to Wonder Woman to take on friend and foe alike to prevent worldwide devastation. The various story strands do feel spread thin over the long running time, while a messy finale barely ties up all the loose ends. However, Gadot, Wiig and Pedro Pascal (as antagonist Maxwell Lord) put in strong performances under returning director Patty Jenkins, and their sizzling chemistry as well as the explosive fight scenes are sure to keep fans entertained.
