Review

Our Score
Paddington Bear returns in a triumphant sequel, which sees our ursine hero framed for the theft of a valuable book by an egotistical actor (Hugh Grant). The film not only manages to be a superior sequel, but also one of the best family movies you're likely to see. The lovable bear takes the audience on an adventure that involves prison, police chases and a hatful of marmalade sandwiches. There are plenty of hilarious moments, with a script that peppers the dialogue with quick wit and funny misunderstandings, delivered by a consummate cast of performers led by Hugh Bonneville and Sally Hawkins as Mr and Mrs Brown. It's a great ride, primarily because the character is so endearing. Added to that is a superb villain in Hugh Grant, who gets the tone just right in a role that demonstrates just how deft a comedy actor he can be. Paddington 2 is irresistibly good fun, taking what made the first film a hit and upping the ante to spectacular effect. A perfect choice for kids, and a lot of adults, too.
