The Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Great Wall of China, Tom Hiddleston taking the Ice Bucket Challenge while wearing a tight white t-shirt – before nominating Benedict Cumberbatch to do the same. Will wonders never cease?

Yes, the Avengers actor is the latest star to take part in the social media trend, which has seen celebrities dumping a bucket of ice cold water over themselves in the name of raising money and awareness for the neurodegenerative illness ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease or Motor Neurone Disease in the UK).

Hiddleston followed in the footsteps of other celebrities such as Bill Gates, Robert Downey Jr and Chris Pratt by posting a video online yesterday. Unlike others, though, his video comes with a funky slo-mo effect, just so fans can savour every second of dripping wet Hiddleston.

The rules of the Ice Bucket Challenge state that, once you have completed it, you must nominate three other people to do it within the next 24 hours. Firefly actor Nathan Fillion originally nominated Hiddleston, who then went on to nominate Luke Evans, Helena Bonham-Carter and… Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch.

Cumberbatch now has until tomorrow to tip a bucket of ice water upon himself. Will he take up the cause? We can only hope…
