A poster for Lifetime’s Liz & Dick TV movie, starring Lindsay Lohan, has been released amid the fallout of the 26-year-old star’s recent headline-hitting car accident.

The film will focus on the relationship between Hollywood star Elizabeth Taylor and her on-off husband, legendary actor Richard Burton. Lohan will play the tabloid darling herself, who famously married eight times – twice to Burton.

The movie poster, emblazoned with the words “child star”, “provocative”, “scandal” and “tabloid front page”, could easily apply to Lohan’s own personal life – and publications across the world have been quick to note the irony.

The actress first stepped into the limelight at the age of three, before being catapulted into fame playing twins Annie and Hallie in the 1998 Disney remake of The Parent Trap

Lohan has since starred in Mean Girls, Freaky Friday and Bobby, but in 2007 she started to hit the headlines for reasons other than her acting. After two DUI convictions, a few stints in rehab, a drug conviction, a couple of brief prison spells and months of house arrest, her once-promising acting career has suffered.

Liz and Dick will be Lohans’ first major role since 2010’s Machete, where she played “a nun with a gun”.

Her fans have high hopes that the TV movie could mark the child star’s screen comeback.
