This is the first image of the animated Tenth Doctor, due to appear later this year in animated adventure Dreamland. Fans will first be able to see the six-part series via the BBC red button or on the BBC's Doctor Who website. The 45-minute long animation will also be broadcast on CBBC on BBC2 in the autumn, and on the BBC HD channel.

Written by Phil Ford - co-writer of upcoming Doctor Who special The Waters of Mars, as well as the brains behind several Sarah Jane Adventures and an episode of Who spin-off Torchwood - Dreamland sees David Tennant's Doctor embark on an adventure in Roswell. While visiting the alien hot spot, the ever-curious Time Lord chances upon an extraterrestrial artefact and is plunged into an escapade that pits him against a new alien threat, the Viperox - not to mention the American military.

Helping him in his endeavours will be new animated companion Cassie Rice, played by The Doctor's Daughter actress Georgia Moffett. Veteran actor David Warner stars as the leader of the ruthless Viperox.

For fans keen to go behind the scenes of the new adventure, the Doctor Who website will also feature a production blog on the making of the animation.

Who supremo Russell T Davies said: "Dreamland is a remarkable project and I'm thrilled with it. Phil Ford is a wonderful writer and promises to send the Doctor into a whole new visual dimension."

Am I right in thinking that the 'dreamland project' was alluded to in the second of this seasons SJA stories? In so doing, thus pitching the animation story as part of the reality timeline/continuity/canon that is Doctor Who & SJA televised crossovers. Eh - if you get my drift!
