Artist creates stunning Game of Thrones season 7 animation out of sand

Pack up your bucket and spade because your sand castle will never top this

All most people can do with sand is make a passable sand castle with a couple of turrets and a moat (on a good day).

But artist Tetiana Galitsyna is so impressively skilled at “sand animation” that she has created Game of Thrones’ most famous characters entirely out of handfuls of coloured sand on a piece of glass.

Set to the dramatic music of the Game of Thrones soundtrack, Poland’s Got Talent winner Galitsyna uses timelapse footage to show herself creating the characters and scenes we know will be key in season seven when it returns later this month.

There’s Jon Snow, looking suitably dour. Then there’s Cersei and Jaime Lannister, and Daenerys Targaryen with her dragons, and a terrifying White Walker.

Each character begins to morph into another as soon as Galitsyna completes their sand portrait.

What better way to capture the constantly shifting sands of Westeros?

Game of Thrones returns to HBO on 16th July, and Sky Atlantic in the UK on 17th July
