The Mission Impossible star will feature in the new film alongside Sofia Boutella as the monster

Tom Cruise has signed on for a reboot of the horror film The Mummy, Variety reports. Sofia Boutella will play the titular monster, with Cruise in a supporting role. Directed by Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek Into Darkness), it’s part of Universal’s plant to turn their classic movie monsters (Dracula, the Wolfman etc etc) into a shared universe a la Marvel.

The Mummy was previously successfully rebooted in the early 2000s in a film series starring Brendan Fraser. The re-reboot is scheduled for release on June 9th 2017.

Appropriate really, the Mummy was notorious for coming back from the dead.
