Eight years after it ended, rumour has it that Gilmore Girls is getting four brand new episodes courtesy of Netflix. The on-demand service is reported to have commissioned a quartet of 90-minute mini-movies starring all the key regulars, including Alexis Bledel, Lauren Graham, Kelly Bishop and Scott Patterson.
The US series – which followed mother-daughter duo Lorelei (Graham) and Rory (Bledel) was cancelled back in 2007, a season after series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino departed the show. According to TV Line, she’s involved in the revival which will give her a chance to conclude the series as she’d always intended with four final words she’d hoped to use from the very beginning but never got the chance.
Netflix began showing old episodes of Gilmore Girls on its American service last October, with rumours of a reunion emerging earlier this year after the cast came together for a TV festival in Austin, Texas.
Asked by fans about the possibility of a revival, Sherman-Palladino said: “There’s nothing in the works at the moment. It would have to be the right everything – the right format, the right timing – it would have to be honoured in a certain way. And if it ever came around, we would all jump in and do it. And if it ever happened, I promise you I’d do it correctly.”
Looks like we could be heading back to Stars Hollow after all. We’ve got our fingers, toes – heck, everything – crossed.
