While we can’t be sure that we’ll be seeing David Tennant appear in the US TV adaptation of Hannibal, it looks like a different British actor with a penchant for brooding and being a bit stubbly is heading to the world of Dr Lecter.
Richard Armitage, most recently seen as Dwarf leader Thorin Oakenshield in the Hobbit but also known for his TV appearances on Spooks, Robin Hood and North and South, will play serial killer Francis Dolarhyde, aka The Tooth Fairy according to TheWrap.
The news was apparently confirmed by this punning tweet from the official Hannibal account:
Previously played on screen by Ralph Fiennes and Tom Noonan, the character comes from author Tom Harris’ novel Red Dragon, and is known as The Tooth Fairy due to his predilection for biting the bodies of his victims. The character most notably appeared in the 2002 film Red Dragon, alongside Anthony Hopkins’ Dr Lecter and Edward Norton.
Armitage will reportedly appear six episodes in. Apparently his story won’t become the main focus of the plot until the next series – these long arcs can be murder.
