US Broadchurch remake Gracepoint may have have been cancelled after just one series due to poor ratings, but at least its star David Tennant got some recognition for his work on the show.
Tennant was voted favourite actor in a new TV series at the People’s Choice Awards in Los Angeles last night for his performance as Detective Emmett Carver.
The British actor, who is back on UK turf in the second series of ITV’s Broadchurch, beat off competition from Gotham’s Ben Mckenzie, Black-ish’s Laurence Fishburne, NCIS’s Scott Bakula and Stalker’s Dylan McDermott.
It was a good night too for nerd sitcom The Big Bang Theory as it scooped favourite network TV comedy and favourite TV show, while Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting, who plays Penny, was voted favourite comedic TV actress.
“We truly have a love and passion for making this show together,” said Cuoco-Sweeting’s co-star Johnny Galecki, who plays Leonard Hofstadter. “Honestly, it’s a dream come true every day, and it’s never lost on any of us for a split-second that it’s entirely due to your love and support.”
British singer Ed Sheeran was voted favourite male musician of the year at the awards, which were hosted by The West Wing’s Allison Janney and Scary Movie’s Anna Farris in LA, and Taylor Swift won best female singer.
Other winners included Greys Anatomy, which beat Downton Abbey to favourite TV drama, and David Fincher’s Gone Girl as best thriller.
