Benedict Cumberbatch set to play Johnny Depp’s brother in crime drama

The Sherlock star is expected to replace Guy Pearce as the politician sibling of Depp’s mob boss Whitey Bulger

Benedict Cumberbatch could be going into politics. The Sherlock star is set to play Senator William ”Billy” Bulger, brother of Johnny Depp’s Whitey Bulger, in the movie about the mob boss.

Cumberbatch is said to be in talks to replace Guy Pearce in the role after the Australian star dropped out a few weeks ago.

Based on the book Black Mass: Whitey Bulger, the FBI and a Devil’s Deal, the film (expected to be called Black Mass) will chronicle the real-life story of the infamous Boston crime king, who headed up a violent gang while simultaneously informing on his rivals to the FBI.

Billy Bulger was a career politician who claimed he had been unaware of the extent of his brother’s criminal interests.

Also joining the cast, according to The Hollywood Reporter, is Parks and Recreations star Adam Scott who will play an FBI agent.

Joel Edgerton, Dakota Johnson, Juno Temple and Jesse Plemons have already signed on for the movie directed by Scott Cooper.
