Watch Karen Gillan transform into a sassy American in first trailer for Selfie

The former Doctor Who actress has had an image overhaul to play self-obsessed twenty-something Eliza Dooley in the My Fair Lady-inspired TV series

The first trailer for Selfie starring our very own Karen Gillan has been released and it’s, well… marmite. For those with a love of all things internet, the #hashtagging, Instagramming, Facebooking and, yes, selfies, will be right up your street. For the rest of us, this first footage looks rather toe-curling.

Playing glamorous but friendless Eliza Dooley, Scottish Gillan is the star of the show, sporting an American accent – one that, at first glance, is a superior effort to David Tennant’s US twang, unveiled yesterday in the first trailer for Gracepoint

Based on the story of My Fair Lady, Selfie sees the former Doctor Who actress play a self-obsessed twenty-something more committed to her online persona than her professional image. Co-starring John Cho as marketing guru Henry Higenbottam – the man she enlists to transform her into a likeable person – the ABC series has some creative kudos, written by Suburgatory’s Emily Kapnek, and also features Homeland’s David Harewood.
