Our Score
Forty years after the original, the seventh instalment in the Rocky franchise is one of its best - a fresh-faced crowd-pleaser as smart and informed in the story's lore as it is rousing for Rocky fans and the uninitiated alike. Michael B Jordan plays Adonis Johnson, son of the late Apollo Creed, who is so convinced of his own boxing talent that he seeks out a coach in his father's nemesis and friend Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone). With the reluctant "Italian Stallion" in his corner, Adonis makes a joyful transformation into Creed. A perfect transition of old and new, Stallone and Jordan are a credible screen partnership, and judicious use of the Rocky theme still brings tears to the eyes. Creed is pure entertainment from writer/director Ryan Coogler (who won plaudits for his 2013 debut Fruitvale Station) as he fits old-fashioned thrills to a whole new world. This is one fine boxing movie with a hero for young and old.

The son of a heavyweight boxer who died in the ring seeks to follow in the footsteps of the father he never knew. He goes in search of his father's old rival-turned-best friend Rocky Balboa, who agrees to train the young fighter for a shot at the title - but the ageing champ is facing challenges of his own. Boxing drama, starring Michael B Jordan, with Sylvester Stallone reprising his role from the Rocky movies.
