What’s the best job in TV?

Mine’s far better than anyone else’s. I make it up – all I do is sit around and mess about. And I get paid at the end of it! AND people like it!

And the worst?

Everyone thinks that people who work in telly earn bundles, but crews don’t and budgets have been slashed year on year, which means runners work for next to nothing. They put in long hours for nothing.

What can’t you miss?

Football! There’s more drama in a football match than anything else on TV. It has to be Tottenham, although sometimes I hate them. It sounds a bit low-brow but I find drama difficult to watch – I can’t watch children being murdered or people being killed in explosions.

What programme would you resurrect?

Reeves and Mortimer, always. And Monty Python, although they’re all dead. You’re right, quite a few of them are still alive, the boring ones… no, I don’t mean that! Michael Palin is a genius.

Who should win the RT Audience Award?

It’s a no-brainer. It’s got to be Strictly. My daughter loves it and we watch it every year. I’m too old to appear on it… cruciate ligament last year…
