Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

Hubris is the name of the game in this slightly unsatisfactory documentary following rock artist and first-time director Troy Duffy as he tries to get his movie, The Boondock Saints, off the page and onto the big screen. Duffy reveals himself as an arrogant, foul-mouthed, temperamental egotist, and there's certainly some Schadenfreude to be enjoyed as we watch him being screwed over by, among others, Miramax's Harvey Weinstein. However, halfway through Overnight, it's revealed that the makers are two former collaborators of Duffy, making their film anything but non-partisan. For all their sniggering, Duffy did eventually get his movie made - although the result was awful.
