BBC One is casting attention to the often overlooked sister from Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice - Mary Bennet.

Aptly titled The Other Bennet Sister, the new series follows Mary (Ella Bruccoleri) as she steps out of her sisters' shadows in search of her own identity, and soon finds herself entangled in an epic love story.

Throughout the 10 episodes, her journey will see her leave her family home in Meryton to regency London and the peaks and vales of the Lake District, as she searches for self-love and independence.

But where exactly did filming take place to bring all of these elaborate scenes to life?

Read on for a rundown of the main locations in The Other Bennet Sister.

The Other Bennet Sister filming locations

Five young women in Regency-era dresses and bonnets walk together along a sunlit cobblestone street in a rustic village, chatting and smiling. They wear pastel gowns and carry small drawstring reticules. Behind them, several soldiers in bright red uniforms with tall black hats march in formation past stone buildings.

The Other Bennet Sister was predominantly filmed in Wales.

Key locations included:

  • Dyffryn House and Gardens, Vale of Glamorgan - the poetry reading scene was filmed in the Pompeian Garden.
  • St Fagans National Museum of History, Cardiff.
  • Llancaiach Fawr Manor, Caerphilly - the museum doubled as the inside of the inn.
  • Penpont House, Brecon - doubled as Meryton Village.
  • Brecon Beacons - the boat scenes on Lake Windermere were filmed on a private lake in the Brecon Beacons, and Scafell Pyke mountain was actually the Black Mountains.
  • Longbourne is actually a private house in Bridgend.

Ella Bruccoleri told Country and Town House that she "loved" filming in Wales.

"I can't speak highly enough about it; it was like a revelation for me," she added. "I'd only been there once, and I was like, 'Oh my God, this is the most beautiful country in the world!' I was blown away by it.

"Some of our locations had to stand in for the Lake District so we did a lot of filming in the Brecon Beacons and on all these beautiful lakes. It was quite breathtaking. There were days when Dónal [Finn] and I just had to row on a lake all day while they captured shots of us in the sun; it was incredible."

For Ruth Jones, it was a homecoming.

"I love coming back to Wales," she told the BBC. "I recognise so many crew members I've worked with before, and it makes me proud that we’re creating a production like this here.

"Locations like St Fagans Folk Museum are places I’ve known since childhood."

Some scenes were also filmed in Bristol, including on Orchard Street, which doubled as Cheapside in London, near St Paul's Cathedral.

The Other Bennet Sister continues on BBC One and iPlayer on Sunday 29 March 2026.
