He hasn't had much time to dwell on it – not that he’d want to – though the encounter clearly knocked him, something his colleagues were quick to notice as work continues at pace.

Last week's episode welcomed Happy Valley's Siobhan Finneran as a guest star, whose character became a suspect after her neighbour was shot dead in his home.

Meanwhile, Selwyn launched a new community initiative in a bid to rebuild trust after learning of the islanders' anger at his decision to walk away from his job, despite their campaign to save him.

"I'm really excited for everyone to see this new season," Shaquille Ali-Yebuah told Radio Times ahead of its debut, promising a "new energy", a "new dynamic to the cast", and an "amazing" guest cast.

"I'm not being biased, but it might be one of the best seasons yet," he added.

But just as he was preparing to leave the island and return to London, he made a shocking discovery — he has a brother…

Speaking about his relationship to the island in season 15, Gilet said: "Just by his nature and the way he is when it comes to his work and the way that his mind works, there’s always going to be a bit of kickback with the people he deals with. Last year, there was this antagonism between Mervin and the team because they just worked in very different ways, and both had to earn the respect of each other in the way they work.

"And let's not forget, he didn't want to be on the island, so he was going to be particularly reluctant to work with these people because of the personal issues he was dealing with.
