Emilia Clarke dyed her hair blonde and now she really looks like Daenerys

“My need to be near fire-breathing creatures has trebled”

Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke just went full Daenerys for season eight. Fortunately not by burning a man alive or sleeping with her nephew – the actor just dyed her hair platinum blonde.

Although Clarke, a natural brunette, has worn a white wig to portray Khaleesi, Mother of Dragons, Breaker of Chains etc. in the past seven seasons, she’ll be ditching the headpiece for the drama’s final episodes.

And she’s really excited about it. Unveiling her new look on Instagram, Clarke said: AAAHHHHHHH SHHHHIIIII******. I done did it. Mother of dragons meet Emilia. Emilia meet mother of dragons. If you squint just so you might never know.”

Clarke then posted a second photo in which she reassured fans she hadn’t transformed into a complete stereotypical blonde, but that she does feel more Khaleesi.

“My IQ has stayed around average and my need to be near fire breathing creatures and uncomfortable seats made of iron has trebled,” she wrote.

However, although it looks like a huge commitment to her character, some fans might think Clarke hasn’t gone far enough. If the show was more faithful to the books, Daenerys would be sporting a very short hairstyle – in the novels Khaleesi loses her hair when Drogon rescues her from the Sons of the Harpy in the Dragonpit (an event we saw in season five). Although a fire can’t harm her body, her hair should be a different story.

But, in terms of the show, it’s a very exciting move. Does ditching the wig mean Clarke is preparing for action sequences that wouldn’t be possible without a hairpiece falling off? Here’s hoping.
