Marvel’s The Punisher could get his own Netflix series

The anti-hero, played by John Bernthal, is set to star in the second series of Marvel's Daredevil

Netflix looks poised to greenlight another Marvel TV series, a spinoff following Jon Bernthal’s Daredevil vigilante The Punisher.

The Marvel anti-hero, also known as Frank Castle, is a war veteran who, driven by the deaths of his wife and two children, takes the law into his own hands, hunting down and killing criminals.

Viewers will get their first look at Bernthal’s Punisher when Daredevil’s second season drops on Netflix later this year, but a dedicated series could follow, according to insiders at Deadline

The Punisher has been adapted for the screen before, somewhat unsuccessfully. The Marvel anti-hero was the star of a film in 1989 and 2004, before Ray Stevenson took on the role in another reboot in 2008’s Punisher: War Zone.

This would be the sixth Marvel TV series commissioned by Netflix, following Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders.
