No Limit to Idris Elba’s magic as Discovery lines up a second series with the Luther star

Discovery’s chief creative officer Phil Craig says that he is working on a new challenge show for the actor – this time without the motoring theme

Idris Elba is being lined up for another run of his Discovery show Idris Elba: No Limits – but he is unlikely to be given another set of motoring challenges.

In the first series, Elba took on a series of adrenaline-fuelled speed adventures, and even broke the UK land speed record.

But at Edinburgh Television Festival earlier today, Discovery Network’s International chief creative officer Phil Craig revealed that while the series is almost certain to return, it is unlikely to retain its motoring theme.

“We are working on a second series, but not necessarily about cars,” he said. “We were really pleased with the first series – not a lot of movie stars let you into their lives in the way Idris did.

“The new show is likely to have the same title, but a different subject, a different set of challenges.”

Craig was speaking at the launch of a series of new shows by Discovery at the Edinburgh Television Festival.

These include a new survival series called Free Ride fronted by adventurer Rob Greenfield to air in winter 2016.

Former McLaren F1 mechanic Mark “Elvis” Priestley will also front a new show called Driving Wild for spring 2016. In it he will meet a series of daring motoring enthusiasts around the world and use his technical know-how to help them pull off various challenges and modify and customise an assortment of cars.
