Raunchy HBO vampire drama True Blood is in its last season, with the final episode due to air in the UK on FOX at 9pm on Monday 8th of September. I am particularly devastated that we won’t be seeing any more of my Eric’s taught pecs, and Bill’s peachy posterior. However, in the rare moments that the cast keep their clothes on, they have provided us with a selection of great fashion moments. In bidding a fond farewell to some of the hottest supernaturals to hit our TV screens, I have taken a look at the style successes of Sookie Stackhouse, the show’s human-fairy heroine and all-round man magnet, so you can get her look and entice a handsome vampire of your own.
Sundress for date night – Season 1, Episode 2
Sookie’s style is very feminine and relaxed, as seen here on a date with Bill. She keeps her look simple but sexy in a strappy sundress. This style shows a lot of skin but remains understated so you don’t look over the top. A simple sundress is a favourite of Sookie’s and we have seen many over the seasons. I particularly like the simple sexuality that this one gives, though, it’s a gorgeous look.
I have found two great options for the Sookie style sundress, both from Missguided and both in great summery and romantic colours. These dresses are so comfortable and easy to wear, just make sure you keep your accessories simple so that you don’t over-glamourise the look – think day date in the park on a warm summer’s day. Team the dress of your choice with pearl accessories, like these stunning pieces from Clogau. Then pick a pair of simple white flats. I think these loafers make a great choice and are something a bit more exciting than your average white ballerina flats.
Lace top and floral skirt – Season 1, Episode 6
At her Gran’s wake Sookie breaks tradition and steers away from black, instead going for a very sweet looking skirt and top combination with her favourite accessory, the Alice band. This is another really versatile look that you can wear for a daytime occasion. For transitional dressing style this up with a textured white blazer and a green print silk scarf.
I really love the fresh colours of this outfit; bright whites and shades of green are a great way to ward off those end of summer blues. A simple white blouse is the starting point for this look and this lace version from H&M is a very close match to Sookie’s own. Then you can go for a skirt or some shorts if you would prefer, to dial down the feminine vibe here. I really like the skirt above. Even though it doesn’t have a pattern like Sookie’s, this satin A-line number from Topshop is a gorgeous colour. Simple white pumps are all you need for footwear (personally, I have always been a Converse girl but any other brand will work just as well). The piece de resistance is the Alice band, though. I like Sookie’s simple white band, with a lack of any other accessories, but I feel that you can go a bit more exciting with the headwear. I would choose this floral piece as to me it feels like something Sookie would wear, however ASOS have lots of headband options so see what takes your fancy.
Jetsetter – Season 2, Episode 4
Moving into a smarter look with this outfit, Sookie has gone all-out for her flight to Dallas. I love the colours on her – the bright yellows match her skin tone and hair colour so well, and this is very feminine and more mature than some of the looks we have seen so far. This is a great transition outfit for right now, with the day temperatures still hitting the 20s this will still be cool enough to wear all day, however the longer skirt and the cardigan will keep you warm in the early morning and on the evening commute.
Finding a match for that cardigan has been the bain of my life for a few weeks now. Could I find a yellow floral cardigan anywhere? Nope no chance. However, on a Bank holiday trip to Cambridge, I saw as I walked past a Next store, this perfect cardigan with yellow flowers, Hallelujah! It’s a really gorgeous piece and the colours work perfectly. Team this with a lemon yellow pleated midi skirt and you can either keep it simple, if you plan to wear the cardigan all day with a white vest top, or if the cardigan is just an outdoors cover up for you then echo the flower theme with this cute daisy top, which will match perfectly. To finish the look off go for a white shoulder bag and white pointed toe courts in whatever hight you wish. Me, I would go as high as I can, but I bet Sookie would go for more of a kitten heel.
That engagement dress – Season 2, Episode 12
I wish I had Anna Paquin’s figure and this dress shows why – it makes her slim but curvy shape look incredible. This dress is very different from Sookie’s normal style, and understandably so as her fiancé to be, Bill gave it to her as a gift. Good call, Bill, good call. This dress is perfect for a smart occasion where you are out to impress, also I think it would make a stunning bridesmaid’s dress.
I just need a few friends to get married and I have an excuse to wear all of these dresses, right? I have picked a few different options to suit different body shapes here. The first on the left is a tight figure hugging camisole dress that oozes sex appeal. This is really for a slim figure, as all your curves will be on show with this fabric. Also if you are larger chested this dress may leave very little to the imagination so is maybe not for you. The second option along is a light flowy number from GirlMeetsDress.com. This dress is very similar to Sookie’s in the way that it fits and flares from the waist band. Perfect for those of you who are conscious of your tummies or derrières, this dress will simply skim over all of those troublesome areas. Winner! Finally, the third option is a one-shouldered style featuring a bustier to enhance your curves and a long flowing skirt; something a little different if you want a twist on the style. Wear this look with simple and elegant pearl accessories, a gold satin clutch bag to match Sookie’s and gold strappy heels to up the evening glamour.
