Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

Bruce Willis stars as a former CIA operative stirred to action once more in this pedestrian thriller. When the high-security compound for fellow retired agents that he oversees is attacked by a gang of elite criminals, he must call on his old skill set to defeat the weapons-wielding foes. Muddying the waters further, his estranged son (Jesse Metcalfe) is paying an out-of-the-blue visit to the site, and the two men are forced to put aside their differences and work together. The cross-generational tension between Willis and Metcalfe, based on the father's frequent absences in the past, could have been examined further to give the narrative some much-needed depth, but the main plot sticks laboriously to standard siege movie tropes and offers no surprises. Neither lead makes much of an impression, so it's left to Chad Michael Murray's borderline psychotic villain to take the wheel and give the drama some momentum. The film was shot back-to-back with a sequel, Fortress: Sniper's Eye, released the following year.
