Action thriller starring Olga Kurylenko and James Purefoy. A glamorous jewel thief goes on the run from a master assassin when her face is accidentally revealed in the middle of a heist.
Clint Eastwood's go-to camera operator Stephen S Campanelli makes his impressive directorial debut with this aptly titled, fast-paced thriller. From its attention-grabbing bank heist opening (the robbers wear futuristic high-tech outfits with voice-modifiers) to the exciting chase finale through Cape Town airport, the breathless cat-and-mouse action never lets up. It's also well-choreographed and laced with flashy violence as CIA assassin James Purefoy relentlessly tracks glamorous jewel thief Olga Kurylenko. She's a target after stealing evidence that implicates a corrupt senator (Morgan Freeman) in a terrorist plot. Kurylenko is terrific in a blazing star turn as the criminal mastermind who comes out of retirement for one last job, endures torture with a smile and always keeps two steps ahead of Purefoy's gleeful sadist. Sure, it's a kick-ass Bourne movie on a budget, but Momentum has a striking sense of style, wit and suspense all of its own.
