Word has reached us that we will soon see a crossover between the worlds of Doctor Who and Star Trek.

It is understood comics publisher IDW is to create a print series in which the Doctor, Rory and Amy will team up with Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of Star Trek: the Next Generation, and an early picture (above) has appeared on bleedingcool.com.

A source at IDW in San Diego, who already publish both Doctor Who and Star Trek comics, confirmed to RadioTimes.com that the picture is genuine and more details will be released "early next week".

Doctor Who has never before engaged in any such crossover outside its own universe. The closest it has come was Dimensions in Time, the much-derided 1993 Children in Need special that featured characters from soap opera EastEnders.

Star Trek has also seen comic book crossovers with X-Men and the Legion of Superheroes. But this is the first time that the two major competing TV sci-fi franchises have been allowed to merge in any way before.

So, will you seek out this comics milestone or do you fear it will trigger a rip in the space-time continuum? Write and let us know.
