Death in Paradise fans have been lapping up the puzzling mysteries of season 12 so far, as well as witnessing DI Neville Parker's (Ralf Little) own tumultuous love life.

The BBC crime drama has already treated us to episodes including exciting guest stars from Sanditon and Happy Valley, among other popular titles. But it seems as though fans can strap in for even more excitement, as the show's creator Tim Key has stressed to RadioTimes.com that this season will go in directions fans "won't expect".

Key spoke exclusively with RadioTimes.com about the hit crime series at this year's Radio Times Covers Party (Tuesday 31st January), alongside Selwyn actor Don Warrington, and was quick to tease future twists.

When asked what fans can expect from the rest of the season, especially in Neville and Sophie's blossoming relationship, Key said: "It's going to be interesting. Everything in this series is going in directions that people won't expect. I think that's a fair thing to say."

Similarly, Key also said this when the season 11 and season 12 renewal announcement was made: "Far from resting on the laurels that a decade on screen has earned, the next two seasons will keep viewers on their toes. We've got huge plans for the future, with lots of surprises to come."

More like this

While we may be reaching the mid point in the popular series, we still have a raft of questions we need answered, not least because of Neville's peculiar friend Andy and Selwyn's long-lost daughter, which Warrington exclusively revealed to RadioTimes.com has led to his character feeling "conflicted" in the remaining episodes.

"He is conflicted," began Warrington, "[by] the fact that he doesn't know her. They've never met... and he has a life and it's difficult in that situation."

With that, read on for everything you need to know about Death in Paradise season 12.

The BBC has confirmed that Ralf Little, Don Warrington, Elizabeth Bourgine, Tahj Miles, Shantol Jackson and Ginny Holder will all return for season 12, with exciting guest cast members being revealed in their droves.

Sanditon's Kevin Eldon, Happy Valley's Amit Shah, Breaking Dad's Barney Walsh, Kate & Koji's Okorie Chukwu and After Life's Jo Hartley have all been confirmed for the new run.

Little was previously unsure whether he would remain the lead detective Neville Parker in season 12 of Death in Paradise, telling Saturday Kitchen: "I have filmed the series that I was originally contracted to do. But there's no indication that they don't want me to go back, it hasn't been agreed yet."

However, we can remain overjoyed at the fact that he and his fellow Death in Paradise cast members have returned for another sunny Guadeloupe-based 12th season.
