Olympic Breakfast: Day 15 - 2

Dan Walker and Sam Quek introduce coverage as diver Tom Daley hopes to challenge for a medal in the 10m platform final. The 2012 and 2016 bronze medallist has been a figurehead of his sport for well over a decade, and the 27-year-old will be desperate to reach the podium in what could be his Olympic swansong. The action gets under way at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre from 7.00. There are also four boxing finals to look forward to from 6.00, including the women's flyweight, in which Great Britain's Charley Davison was fancied to contend for a medal ahead of the Games. She took seven years out of the sport to have three children, but has returned with a bang. Over at Kasumigaseki Country Club, the battle for gold in the women's golf reaches a dramatic conclusion.

Now that Tom Daley has ended his 13-year wait for an Olympic gold, who’s to say he can’t make it a diving double? His triumph with Matty Lee in the synchronised diving ten-metre platform will have released a heavy weight off his shoulders ahead of the individual competition 12 days later.

The fact that Daley is competing in his fourth Olympics at the Tokyo Games makes him something of an elder statesman in diving, even if he’s still only 27, and today he’ll need to harness all his experience when plunging off the platform. Yet a victory in this event at Tokyo’s Diving World Cup in May bodes well.

Elsewhere on the penultimate day of the Games, highlights include the climax of the men’s football and the women’s 4x400m relay final, where GB’s hopes lie with a team led by Jodie Williams.
