Review

Bloomsbury Group associate Dora Carrington’s work is often overshadowed by her unconventional life. She was at the centre of an impossible ménage à trois between Ralph Partridge — a husband she didn’t love — and Lytton Strachey, a gay man she adored. During her lifetime her work received no critical attention leading a former Tate director to describe her as “the most neglected serious painter of her time”.

Helena Bonham Carter — fairly unconventional herself — adores her paintings. The actress joins Gus Casely-Hayford as they wander the English countryside from Sussex to the Lake District uncovering the history behind the artist.
