Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Two pals in rural Ireland take off with a lucrative drugs stash in this darkly amusing road movie from Barnaby Thompson (co-director of the St Trinian's reboots). Ben Hardy (formerly of EastEnders) and Daryl McCormack (Peaky Blinders) are suitably hapless as the wet-behind-the ears dealers, but Olivia Cooke steals every scene as the titular gangster's daughter, who twists the duo around her little finger at every opportunity. Ribald rather than properly rib-tickling, Thompson's solo directing debut is boosted by terrific cameos from Colm Meaney as Pixie's crime boss stepdad and Alec Baldwin as his man-of-the-cloth arch enemy, while Dylan Moran is a hoot as a no-nonsense rival dealer. The Irish landscape is a bonus, offering a striking backdrop to a fun caper culminating in a shoot-'em-up straight out of the Tarantino playbook.
