Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Over ten years on from An Inconvenient Truth, former US vice president Al Gore's stark climate-change message is still ruffling feathers around the world. So much has happened in the last year, however, that his follow-up, loosely focused on the Paris Accord of 2016, can't help but feel premature. Much of it is either recap or update, showing how Gore has taken to training up activists worldwide to deliver his pioneering slideshow on a much larger international scale. At the same time, it reveals just how much more urgent the situation is, as global warming results in ever more extreme weather events. Gore is as unflappable as ever, but his guard drops towards the end with the arrival of unapologetic eco-sceptic President Donald Trump, elected as the film was in the editing stages. A Moriarty to Gore's urbane Sherlock Holmes, Trump is a shadowy villain who never gets to reveal his dastardly plan; a third instalment surely beckons.
