Our Score
In this splendid Technicolor romp, Douglas Fairbanks Jr ably follows in the dashing footsteps of his father. He stars as swashbuckling hero Sinbad, who searches for hidden treasure - while fending off the evil machinations of villains Walter Slezak and Anthony Quinn - and falls for beautiful slave girl Shireen, played by green-eyed, red-headed Maureen O'Hara. The costumes lack flair (as does the plot), and the whole thing's very juvenile, but there's no denying the film's sense of joie de vivre, and that's a very admirable commodity. The right tone is defined from the opening: this is great fun.

The fearless Arabian adventurer regales a group of travellers with the story of his eighth famous voyage. He follows a map leading to an island where Alexander the Great's lost treasure is hidden, but makes a powerful enemy along the way when he frees a woman from the harem of a ruthless emir. Swashbuckling adventure, starring Douglas Fairbanks Jr, Maureen O'Hara and Anthony Quinn.
