Red Dwarf cast: We want Doctor Who crossover

Cast members from Red Dwarf have spoken of their desire for the stars of Doctor Who to join them in an episode of the sci-fi sitcom.

“I think it’d be great if, for one scene, we could be beaming somewhere and suddenly we’d be on the Tardis with the Doctor,” Craig Charles, who plays Dave Lister, said to RadioTimes.com. “Then we could shake our heads, say ‘nah’ and just beam back out again.”

Co-star Danny John-Jules (aka crew member Cat) was in agreement: “I think Doug Naylor should write in one of the old Doctors. Sylvester McCoy or someone. And then we could have an episode with one of those guys in it. It would be funny.”

Red Dwarf is set to return for a new series on freeview channel Dave on Thursday 4 October at 9pm. It is the first time that new episodes have been produced since the 2009 mini-series Back to Earth.

Doctor Who ends its current run of episodes this Saturday at 7.20pm on BBC1.
