Robert Altman drops his usual scattergun approach to direct a wholly focused adaptation of Ed Graczyk's play about a group of women who gather to commemorate the death of their beloved Jimmy Dean. Sandy Dennis, Cher and Karen Black are among the beautiful losers who are now slightly older and bitchier than they were when they originally formed the fan club. Altman brilliantly conveys their changes of mood via a wall mirror in what is altogether one of the better variations on a stage theme.
