A star rating of 4 out of 5.

"I'm just kind of sick of being a joke," says Hollywood actor David Arquette in this bloody-knuckled and unexpectedly compelling documentary. A long-time wrestling fan who's best known for playing a cop in the Scream films, Arquette upset lovers of World Championship Wrestling in 2000 when, during a guest appearance, he was crowned champion - despite having zero mat experience. In true Rocky fashion, this film catches up with him almost two decades later, finding Arquette down in the dumps and determined to prove he's worthy of his place in the ring. The ensuing comeback narrative is handled with tongue-in-cheek flair by debut directors David Darg and Price James, who follow Arquette through stunts both goofy and shockingly gory. The spirit of Jackass endures in set pieces such as Arquette throwing down with a troupe of amateur wrestlers who decide to teach him a lesson in respect, while a throat-slash KO has to be seen to be believed. Throughout, Arquette is endearingly gung-ho and vulnerable. Although the film shies away from delving too deeply into the star's physical and mental health issues, You Cannot Kill David Arquette delivers as dirty, feel-good fun; a fist-pumping anthem to the underdog.
