Gracepoint, the US version of hit David Tennant and Olivia Colman drama Broadchurch, looks like it has been snapped up by ITV, RadioTimes.com can reveal.
The commercial broadcaster, which commissioned parent drama Broadchurch from Kudos Productions, is close to putting the finishing touches to a deal with Fox and the producers Shine America for the rights to air the Transatlantic version in the UK, we understand.
Airing in the autumn, sources suggest that ITV is expected to air Gracepoint around the same time, with the second series of Broadchurch probably airing next year. It is not clear which of ITV's channels would carry the show.
A Gracepoint trailer has been released which showed a string of similar characters and many parallels between the US and British version (below).
In the US version, Olivia Colman’s detective is played by Breaking Bad alumnus Anna Gunn with David Tennant taking on the same role he played in the British version, albeit with a US Accent and the name Emmett Carver rather than Alec Hardy.
However Tennant has said that the US ending will not feature the same outcome.
Said Tennant: "I don't quite know where it's all going. The ending is going to be different. So long as it doesn't turn out that I did it..."
An ITV spokeswoman declined to comment.
