Summary

Greg Davies is the Taskmaster in this comedy show. Assisted by Alex Horne, he has set a series of devious tasks for five hyper-competitive comedians (Roisin Conaty, Tim Key, Romesh Ranganathan, Frank Skinner and Josh Widdicombe). Expect cheating. Expect arguments. Expect both cheating AND arguments.

Episode 2: The Pie Whisperer

Summary

Greg Davies sets tasks for Roisin Conaty, Tim Key, Romesh Ranganathan, Frank Skinner and Josh Widdicombe. They have to identify the contents of a table full of mystery pies, make a film backwards and high five a 55 year old. Alex Horne helps coax the contestants to reveal how comic, creative and seriously competitive they are.

Review

Rating: 4 out of 5.

You’d expect Alex Horne and Greg Davies to set tasks for different comedians each week. But – and if this was stressed in the opening episode, I missed it – it’s Frank Skinner, Josh Widdicombe, Roisin Conaty, Romesh Ranganathan and Tim Key every time. As they react to footage of them guessing the fillings of pies, or hunting for a 55-year-old in a shopping centre, the rationale becomes clear.

Angry Romesh, dippy Roisin, slippery Tim, chirpy Josh and cool elder statesman Frank have all settled into an exaggerated comic persona. Arguing about the tasks makes them clash endlessly, sitcom-style. So far it’s a bountiful source of laughs.
