England v India: First Test Day One 04.08

England v India. Coverage of the first day of the First Test in the five-match series, taking place at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. England will be looking for revenge after their 3-1 series defeat in India back in February and March. After comprehensively beating their hosts in the First Test by 227 runs, Joe Root's side were easily beaten in the next three Test matches, ruling them out of a place in the World Test Championship Final.

England’s form in five-day cricket is not what they would hope as they go into a five-Test series against India, starting today at Trent Bridge. Their 3-1 series defeat at India’s hands back in the winter was a heavy blow. In June, they lost a two-Test series to New Zealand.

In the fast bowling department, captain Joe Root can’t call on either Jofra Archer or Chris Woakes, who are both injured, but on the plus side Ben Stokes has recovered from a finger injury. England can be expected to perform much better on their own pitches than they did on India’s, but this will still be a huge test against formidable opposition.
