Spark, a teenage monkey and his friends, Chunk and Vix, are on a mission to regain Planet Bana, a kingdom overtaken by the evil overlord Zhong.
A teenage monkey, a vixen and a warthog dream-team take on the despot who destroyed their planet in this charmless and routine space cartoon that has rather more voice muscle (Patrick Stewart, Susan Sarandon, Jessica Biel) than it deserves. The film's makers have tossed in all manner of random Asian and western genre ingredients into a big stockpot, garnished with some cod Star Wars homilies, given it all a great, big stir, and hoped to goodness that something fresh and tasty would emerge. It didn't. But the noisy, frenetic and ironically rather sparkless Spark rattles along, and should just about pass muster for easy-going younger kids not bothered by the unfathomable plot and duff dialogue. Unfortunately, with so much more creative animated entertainment out there, being just OK doesn't really cut it any more.
