Review

A star rating of 2 out of 5.

Every technophobe's worst nightmare is made dreary reality in a film that takes a very familiar story and then adds wi-fi. The threadbare set-up, where Pierce Brosnan's smooth-talking CEO finds himself at the mercy of a tech guy obsessed with his daughter, gets very weird very quickly. A horrendous script tries to rely on our fear of machines taking over, but the scenario is played to such extremes that it's hard to take seriously. Brosnan rallies valiantly against the tide, and tries his best to inject some tension as the powerful man whose life is taken apart by the devices we use every day. The same can't be said for co-star James Frecheville (Animal Kingdom), a bland villain who exudes all the menace of a broken laptop. Intriguing in parts, but mostly daft and sombre, I.T. is a very average thriller that fizzles out long before the predictable final act.
