Three members of the Four Weddings and a Funeral cast are reunited in this tepid farce from Canada. They have to work hard to raise any laughs in a story where expat Toronto architect Grace (Anna Chancellor) is told she may only have five days to live before potentially fatal surgery on a brain tumour. Her milquetoast alcoholic husband (James Fleet) is daunted by the prospect of life without her and cheating ex Richard (John Hannah) proves equally insecure - feeling the need to fly across the Atlantic to badger her into declaring him her soul mate. Subplots involving daughters Katie Boland and Hanna Anderson, boss Greg Wise and love rival Hermione Norris provide a welcome distraction from the strained central plot. But such is the stolidity of director Joan Carr-Wiggin's screenplay that there is frustratingly little spark between the Four Weddings alumni. They give accomplished performances while struggling to convince themselves (let alone the audience) of the authenticity of the characters and their convoluted situation.
