Sony are muscling in on the booming market for streaming boxes, already closely fought by the likes of Apple and Roku.
PlayStation TV will go on sale in the UK on 18th November. Although pricing has been announced for the US and Europe ($99/€99), the UK RRP hasn’t been confirmed. Hopefully it won’t be £99. Exchange rates and all that.
As well as offering the standard streaming services like Netflix that we have come to expect from competitors, the PlayStation TV will give access to Sony’s rich catalogue of video games.
Speaking at the Gamescom trade show in Germany, Sony announced that owners of the PS3 will be able to stream games from the console to the PlayStation TV through Remote Play.
Furthermore, the PlayStation Now service will stream classic PlayStation titles straight to the new box, without the need to own a console. PlayStation Now will launch in the UK and Europe in 2015.
