Review

A star rating of 1 out of 5.

The vengeful wronged woman scenario of this underwhelming thriller will have viewers sniggering for all the wrong reasons. Rosario Dawson moves to a small California town to shack up with her new beau and his young daughter, where said beau's first wife (Katherine Heigl) is still a pillar of the community. Heigl embarks on a campaign of terror involving a fake social media profile for Dawson, which lures her abusive ex back into her life. Director Denise Di Novi made her name as a Hollywood producer, including a partnership with Tim Burton, but although her feature directorial debut aims for Hitchcock-like suspense, the end result is corny melodrama and clichéd dialogue that evokes Dallas or Dynasty. Heigl's unhinged ice maiden ("Psycho Barbie", as one character calls her) is essentially a Stepford wife with abandonment issues and rarely delivers a convincing level of menace. Meanwhile Dawson and Geoff Stults, as the man caught in the middle, are just irritating (both invite trouble by leaving mobile phones unattended). The only unforgettable elements of a predictable potboiler are the unintentional laughs.
