Viewers will see how villainous Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) fares in his kidnap ordeal in the latest episode of Emmerdale (Thursday 10th July 2025).

A blackmail campaign against Joe saw him receive threatening notes demanding £100,000 to keep his criminal secrets.

When Joe suspected henchman Shaun (James Boyland) and sacked him, Shaun turned on him, but Joe was protected by loyal Sam Dingle (James Hooton).

Sam suggested Joe should go abroad to get away from the danger, but Joe was then knocked out by Shaun with a shovel.

As the drama picks up in the Dales, Joe wakes up disoriented in a makeshift hospital room, where his captor is revealed as none other than Doctor Crowley (James Hillier).

Menacing Crowley looms over Joe, who soon comes to regret hiring the man to carry out his illegal kidney transplant!

What exactly does Crowley want from Joe?

Well, you can find out what happens next by watching Emmerdale now on ITVX, or catch the hour-long instalment on ITV1 from 7.30pm.

But suffice to say, Joe is left terrified and, after months of doing whatever he likes, he's finally at the mercy of someone else.

Speaking to RadioTimes.com and other press recently, Porteous explained: "The one missing thing that Joe has as a character is his ability to physically defend himself.

"He rubs a lot of people up the wrong way, and some people probably turn to violence so it's good for a character like Joe to have a bit of muscle around, because he's certainly not [got that].

"But then with that comes its own dangers. Hired muscles have their own issues!"

So, as his association with Shaun and Crowley comes back to haunt him, will Joe escape their wrath?
