28. Ordinary Lies (BBC1)

“People have secrets, do things they live to regret,” said one character in season two of Ordinary Lies, and if the drama had a coat of arms, that would be on it. Writer Danny Brocklehurst composed another theme-and-variations based on the idea of people going off the rails because they deceive their loved ones (and generally themselves as well). A husband spied on his wife using hidden cameras. A company PA pretended her boss’s flat was her own in order to woo an old flame. A warehouse boss led a secret life as a vigilante. The results were moving morality tales that never let go of everyday life. David Butcher
