In this family-friendly sequel to A Dog's Purpose, the path of reincarnation continues as a red retriever provides loyal support to his master's family over the course of several lives. No prior knowledge is presumed, though, as lovable Bailey is reborn as various breeds from loping Great Dane to perky little yorkie, all cheerily voiced by Josh Gad. Each incarnation is driven by the quest to care for the granddaughter of the dog's original master, kindly farmer Dennis Quaid. The journey helpfully walks junior viewers through the prospect of pet mortality, sweetened by intermittent cute high-jinks en route, though the focus is as much on the trials of adult life. The subject matter is perhaps a tad grown-up for the smallest children, but there's enough heart and canine soul here for genuine cross-generational appeal.
